Brickipedia News:LEGO builds a lead in toy sale race
by CJC95 September 5, 2014 |
LEGO have overtaken Mattel as the biggest toy seller in the world. The Danish company have seen revenue up 11% ($2.03 billion) and operational profit up 12% in the first half of 2014. The revenue is now triple that of first half 2008. The main driving force is The LEGO Movie, which drove up sales significantly in all markets. Meanwhile, Mattel only had a revenue of $2 billion. This no doubt comes as a blow to Mattel, who purchased Mega Bloks earlier this year in an attempt to directly compete with LEGO.
(I know the title is terrible, but its not as bad as the Wall Street Journal's "Oh, Snap!", so give me some credit. Also give the WSJ some credit, as they were one of the sources for this article, the other being LEGO's press release.)
