5706 LEGOLAND is a video game released for PC in 2000 In the game, players design LEGOLAND Parks in a similar style to the Rollercoaster Tycoon series.
Development[edit | edit source]
Legoland was developed by a small team of six people, with three artists and three programmers. The game was initially planned to receive a PlayStation version, alongside PC, but the PlayStation port was canceled, as the system was not powerful enough to handle the graphics.[1]
Minigames were considered for the game; however, only two were ever designed. One was a Wild West game like Frogger, and the other was a jungle game similar to River Raid. Both were cut because there wasn't enough time to finish them.[1]
The minifigures in the game were rendered in real time, while the backgrounds and buildings were pre-rendered. The developers initially planned to use pre-rendered characters as well, but this caused animation issues on rides that moved upside down.

Notes[edit | edit source]
- The pirates theme makes an appearance as the boating school.
- During the intro, Biker Bob makes an appearance.
- Professor Voltage's time machine appears to be based off the time machine from the 1960 film version of H.G. Wells' book "The Time Machine."
- During development, The team visited Legoland Windsor to see how real parks were designed, although lead programmer Mark Rabjohn claims the trip didn't impact their development plans very much.
