User blog:Caterpillar/My favorite set

From Brickipedia, the LEGO Wiki

My Favorite set is the City Spaceport 60080. I have always had a thing for space ships ever since the first Rocket lift off and Star Trek. Not to mention the Jetsons - my generation was promised flying cars! We always had a model of Apollo V in our home (looking forward to Lego version!) - but the shuttle made me feel space travel was as easy as hopping on a plane - that one day anyone (me) could pilot them! Then Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy!!! My love of spaceships ever increases. We have had many toy models of the Shuttle and even toured Stennis Space Center in MS. The Lego City Spaceport is an awesome replica of the Shuttle. It was fun to build with my grandson. Truth be told, my favorite set is All Of Them! Or rather whatever one I am working on at the time! I started playing with Legos when they were red and white bricks with little windows and doors in the 1960's when my brothers would let me. Fast forward to the birth of my grandson and I have become a Lego-holic! Some of my friends do cross word puzzles and others do regular puzzles which although fulfilling to the individual - does not have the creative and bonding experiences that Lego has. Not only does one get to build a set - you also get the challenge of making something stronger to withstand the playing of a toddler to 6 year old boy. Going to the Brick Wall at the Lego Stores, keeping the pieces sorted so that when we find a set we want to build - before we buy we check the instructions to see if we have the parts to do it ourselves. Problem solving - how to accomplish something using other parts that what is called for. The set we finished recently was Lego Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters 75827. It took me a few days to build - my grandson was the foreman: "Why aren't you working on the Firehouse? What bag are you on?" Upon waking each day would come in the room "How much did you get done while I was sleeping? When will it be done?" The Firehouse was easy to put together and is very sturdy. Some sets have been put together multiple times - because they fall apart during play, but the Ghostbuster Firehouse Headquarters has been played with extensively and not one brick has come out. We have a few more sets to work on in the future. A few topics that have came up for me and Lego is: a child stealing minifigures, display and storage options. Will be reading other blogs for answers to questions and more! Loving the LEGO - inventors, community and of course the bricks!
