User blog:NovaHawk/An alarming revelation

From Brickipedia, the LEGO Wiki

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

As I was cleaning up the Snowspeeder disambiguation page, I vaguely remembered a time when we weren't getting hit by at least one snowspeeder model every year. It seemed so long ago, that at first I thought it might have just been a dream.

Deciding to investigate further, I created a graph of the number of Snowspeeders released per year. This incudes First Order Snowspeeders- after it was discovered that the second Episode VII Microfighter for 2016 is a First Order Snowspeeder (just after a standard-size release of the vehicle in 2015), it's become apparent that LEGO seems to be obsessed with the name "Snowspeeder" moreso than the vehicle itself. I then made a projection of the number of Snowspeeder to be released in future years, and here are the results:

NovaHawk-snowspeederprojection.jpg

Yes, that's right- by the year 2027, it's likely that we will have six Snowspeeder sets being produced every year. By 2047, that number will grow to over 18 Snowspeeders.*

* Note that if 75098 Hoth Echo Base has a Snowspeeder, this projected number may be even higher.

Update: CJC95 has provided a graph with a more mathematically accurate trendline:

CJC-snowspeederprojection.png

This projects 10 Snowspeeders by 2022, which is even more disturbing news.

Update 2: As 75098 Assault on Hoth contains a Snowspeeder, here's an updated graph:

NovaHawk-snowspeederprojection-2016.jpg

That's right- if this trend continues, in 2020, 20 Snowspeeder sets will be released. Following the trend, in 2050, TLG will produce approximately 13,750 different Snowspeeder sets for us to buy.

So please, do something about this. If you already have a Snowspeeder of each type, consider not buying another one. Maybe together, we can send a message to LEGO that we don't want the LEGO Star Wars theme to become the LEGO Snowspeeder theme.

Genius! I love it! Definitely one of the best blogs Ive ever read. Great job Nova!

P.S. I almost want to see these predictions come true for the sake of seeing 25 different snowspeeder sets on the shelf at once XD

P.P.S. Just imagine the possibilities for the sets' names in 2020...snowspeeder rescue, snowspeeder assault, snowspeeder flying, snowspeeder getting destroyed, snowspeeder wreck, definitely not a snowspeeder... =P

I just remembered something: 3866 from 2012 included two snowspeeders, does this change anything? :P

2022 is going to be a very interesting year. One wonders if they'll focus all their new set creation into this one category.

You lose marks for not labelling your axis I'm afraid.

Also, I doubt this is the best trendline model, so I went to excel and looked up what R^2 is, and have determined the best model is in fact the x^6 (it has R^2 = 0.519. x^2 has R^2=0.3615, and the closer to 1 the better).

So, I present to you a better graph:

hehe, I used to lose so many marks for not labelling axes- I just figure if you can't figure out what each axis means, you've got problems :P

Thanks for the better graph, added it in :)
