User blog:ToaMeiko/2016 LEGO Support Programs
The LEGO Group has updated its support programs for 2016. Pertaining to our community, the details of the LEGO Ambassador Network and Online RLUG support have been updated, as well as the introduction of two new support programs. The full info sheet is available here.
The requirements to maintain recognized status as an online LUG have been updated to the following:
- Have stable or increasing metrics depending on type of Online RLUG
- Must live up to the requirements and expectations of the LEGO
Ambassador Network
- Comply with TLG Fair Play policy and TLG Brand Values
- Comply with the Novelty Confidentiality policy
- Contribute activities of high value to and impact on the AFOL Community
- Presence at events during the year
Online RLUG Support is being handled differently than previous years. Instead of having a LUG support budget, there are several types of support:
- Base support
- A selection of novelty LEGO sets shipped throughout the year depending on the various theme launch dates
- The selection is made by the AFOL Relations & Programs team
- Theme specific support
- Should an Online RLUG focus on one LEGO theme, the selection of novelty LEGO sets can be customized depending on that focus
- Online RLUG activity support
- Should an RLUG wish to do an activity that includes LEGO sets, LEGO elements or products not provided with base support, the Online RLUG Activity application is sent to the Online Community Manager for evaluation and approval
- Examples of supported activities:
- Online RLUG event (e.g. the online RLUG meets at a LEGOLAND theme park for a weekend or similar)
- Theme month with raffles, prizes and reviews
- Contest prizes
- Magazine support (for printed and digital magazines only)
- Additional option to request interviews with LEGO employees
This allows us the same sets as other LEGO sites regardless of cost, exclusivity, etc. If LEGO wants the online communities to have that set, we'll have access to that set. This also gives us the ability to review, do contests, give stuff away, etc without having to worry if we'll have a budget left. For contests, LEGO will review the activity application, which I presume involves seeing if it fits in the LEGO brand values and that the activity stimulates activity between the site, the LEGO Group, and fans (the purpose of LAN), and then I'd hear back and we continue with the contest. The application is not yet available so I cannot be certain what it involves.
