The Set[edit | edit source]

The set contains a glider, a small weapons platform, and a motorbike for Captain America. The glider is nicely designed, and the front part and wings are adjustable. The colour scheme for this and the weapons platform looks appealing and fit well with the colours on the Chitauri minifigures. The platform is not large, but again looks pretty good, and comes with the inevitable flick-fire missile, which personally I find to be a nice, easy way of adding a bit more functionality to a set. Personally I much rather flick-fires when you don't have to flick them with your finger (that is, when you can press a switch down which fires the missile), but for a set this size, that isn't realistically an option.

Captain America's bike is completely inaccurate to the film, however I think this was for the best, otherwise we would have gotten a very plain-looking black bike in the set. This one's colour scheme looks very nice, and features the use of several Captain America-related stickers.

The Minifigures[edit | edit source]

I really think the Chitauri (both the soldier and the general) could have been done much better. I've always been a bit baffled as to why they have golden heads and purple hands (reference image of what they're based on). I also find the printing on the head a little confusing- most of the time I would think that printing on the back of the head would be a great thing, but since their mask doesn't look a whole lot like a normal face, honestly I find the printing of the back of the head a little distracting, and have more than once accidentally put the head on back to front (maybe that's just me).

The accessories for the aliens includes a gun for the general, held in a bit of an unconventional way, and like a lot of the set, doesn't seem to match anything from the film. Not worrying about its accuracy to the film though, I find it to be a pretty original weapon (and way to hold it), and purple pieces are always nice to have.

Captain America- the torso and the shield are great- I couldn't think of a better way to design them. Not only the printing design of the shield is good, but I like these new shield moulds, which be able to be held in many more ways by the minifigure than a traditional shield piece. The only thing I don't like about the minifigure is the head. The skin printing is very dark, at least on mine, which is probably due to the dark blue piece it's printed on, and also I would find it much better if the hood was separate- Captain America did spend a significant amount of time fighting without anything over his head in the film, I just think they missed a good opportunity there.

Overall[edit | edit source]

This is probably one of my shortest reviews, mainly because the set is very straightforward. It's not that it's a bad set, but to me would have to be the least interesting out of the Marvel sets so far. It is good to have a mixture of heroes and villains in the set, which gives it some points playability if you have only this set, but the bottom line is, I just don't think it would be worth getting unless you wanted a Captain America minifigure.
