During his [[Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone|first year]] at Hogwarts, he saved the Philosopher/Sorcerer's Stone and defeated the evil Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, [[Professor Quirrel]], who carried Lord Voldemort on the back of his head.
 
In his [[Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets|second year]], he defeated the [[Basilisk]], a large snake-like creature, and destroyed [[Tom Riddle]]'s diary horcrux with one of the Basilisk's fang inside the [[4730 The Chamber of Secrets|Chamber of Secrets]].
