For the moment, we are going to be discussing the pros and cons of leaving, and then we will conduct a straw poll to decide. Advantages to leaving We have freedom to do what we want in terms of domain name, skin, and extensions. This is the main reason why we are moving. Less obstructive ads/Wikia spotlights taking away from our actual content. We are an encyclopedia, after all. The new development team is less distanced from the community than the Wikia staff, allowing the community to decide on changes to the site interface without having to go through a lengthy process. Also, when something breaks, the correct person can be told to fix it. They are not "hiding behind a wall" with only a few holes to talk to them. Proper forums (but these won't be for forums like this). More things to do. Disadvantages to leaving It will be difficult to get readers to move along with us without Wikia getting on our case. A large initial decrease in views/new users. There is a potential for a divide in the community. However, if the new wiki achieves critical mass, this shouldn't be much of a problem. We will, for a while at least, lose the chat feature and be forced to use IRC. Logged in users currently have no external ads. These we will have to have.
