LEGOLAND Windsor has closed this weekend after continued controversy over the park being booked out by the Muslim Research and Development Fund (MRDF). When the MRDF originally announced its plans to host a family fun day at the park, scheduled for March 9, calling it a day of "halal entertainment", it courted controversy from the political right.

The controversy was centred around the MRDF's association with controversial preacher Haitham al-Haddad, and what park officials called "deliberate misinformation", like this article by the Daily Mail's Richard Littlejohn, which helped portray the day as a "Muslim-only event", despite strong insistence from both LEGOLAND and the MRDF that this was not the case. This led to threats from neo-Nazi groups, and planned protests from the English Defence League and the Casuals United, until last week the event was cancelled due to safety concerns. 4000 people had already booked tickets for the weekend before cancellation.

However, even after the cancellation, LEGOLAND announced today that it would be closed this weekend due to safety and security concerns.
