User blog:TheNightingale/Addressing the leaving users

From Brickipedia, the LEGO Wiki

Hello everyone,

Today I'd like to bring up a current major issue on our site - the leaving viewers going back to Wikia.

It is obvious that activity isn't at it's best, but we're still doing pretty well, but some users have decided to go back to Wikia for one or more of these reasons:

  1. They want rights on that site to feel more powerful
  2. They don't care as much about this site
  3. They think that they should "fix it up".
  4. The miss friends on that site.

Well, let me go into more depth...

First of all - if you think that you should fix up our rival site in case we move back, remember":

  • Most of our admins and users left Wikia because we didn't like the site, so we don't want to go back.
  • Editing on both sites hurts both sites.
  • Trying to fix up Wikia before this place even dies gets us closer to death. Why not try to fix up this site?

People seem to forget that Brickimedia is the largest and best LEGO encyclopedia on the net. Not only are we the biggest, but we also have official support from the LEGO group themselves.

Pros of Brickimedia
  • Not as many ads as Wikia/Brickia
  • More customisability of the interface (Special:Preferences has several optional skins, whereas Wikia has two)
  • More articles than our rival site.
  • Better-moderated activity
  • A big team of admins with more experience and knowledge (admins who have been on Brickipedia for several years)
    • Our admins have experience earned from 8 years of hard work being passed along from senior admins to newer admins over time. Brickia's admins are inexperienced (not being condescending to them, they're doing a fine job all things considered) and had no time to be mentored by senior admins since Sannse "exiled" all admins from Brickia. Due to this, they are unfamiliar with several processes and policies established in Brickia's past.
  • Contests
  • A large site for customs
  • LEGO Ideas wiki
  • Stories wiki
  • And even more projects!
  • A great and large community
  • Official support from the LEGO Group. This means prizes donated for contests or reviews! Brickia does not have this, nor do they qualify to get it and will never qualify for it.
  • Unlimited technical support which allows for the development of our own features to make the site nicer. On Wikia, this is not doable and you are confined to their technical capabilities. Have an idea for a new feature? Ask for it and chances are it will be developed and added to Brickimedia. On Wikia, this is something that will not be doable.

We understand that you have the option yourself to choose which site you want to edit and be active in most, but please remember the points I brought up.

Thanks -

TheNightingale, admin of Brickimedia

  • Correct
  • May be true, cba to check
  • Technically true perhaps, though probably not.
  • A big team of inactive admins
  • Well, I guess.
  • Large?
  • So does Wikia
  • Ditto
  • All of which are dead
  • Large? Great?
  • With 3 users.

Sadly, I agree. Although I am biased because I was leaving to go fix Brickia...
