LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the sixth LEGO Star Wars video game, developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros. Games, which released on April 5, 2022, originally planned to be released in 2020, but was delayed until 2021, and later to Spring 2022, when it finally released, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The game features content from all nine Skywalker Saga Star Wars films.
Background[edit | edit source]
Throughout the mid- to late 2000s and early 2010s, TT Games released several titles adapting Star Wars content. Lego Star Wars: The Video Game (2005) adapted The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith, while Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006) covered A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Both games were later combined into a single release, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, in 2007. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (2011) was an outlier, as it adapted the first two seasons of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars rather than a film trilogy.
Following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released in 2015 as the beginning of a new trilogy. The following year, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released, adapting the events of the film. Unlike previous entries, it covered only a single movie (though additional content based on the original trilogy and the animated series Star Wars Rebels was added as DLC), and the later sequels The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker did not receive standalone game adaptations.
