Dear active user,[edit source]

NovaHawk's annoying weekly message- 2016, issue 1!

Welcome to NovaHawk's annoying message, a member of NovaHawk's annoying things that NovaHawk does. I hope you like this message and choose to treat it with love.

Ok, fine, I'll stop now. Hi, this is the first of a set of weekly reminders pointing out some of the community-based discussions that should be taking place, but aren't. Every week, links will be provided to some discussions which have started but have had their last edit as early as October 2013. Hopefully by resolving one or two things a week, we should be through most of the important stuff by June.

One new thing I'm introducing is the Featured Forum. Every week, one topic from Brickipedia:Forum will go up. But the end of the week, it will be closed for good. The forum is just getting waaay to long and nothing is getting resolved on it. So please, if you do nothing else, just take a look at the featured forum once a week, it shouldn't take too long. If you have no opinion, please just sign your name in the bottom section so we know you've at least seen it so we don't have to worry about what your opinion might be (and it bumps it up in the RC as well). Also, take a look at the things below if you can.

Here are a few helpful links:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at my talk page.

You are free to remove this message after you have read it. No seriously, you really should remove these after you've clicked the links, it's going to get annoying having all these on your talk page.

Re: Ratings[edit source]

  • Thanks, good to hear ratings are working again for you Refreshed people, I was getting sick of every page saying "unrated", hopefully people will get back in to adding ratings now :) (I've been lazy with that too though and I don't have an excuse with the skin). I think I've read your blog about 3 or 4 times, and have been meaning to ask you about it- I'm not sure if I exactly understand it- does this mean there's no budget, but LEGO just sends out the same sets to every fansite? NovaHawk 03:10, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
    • Also, any idea why user CSS files aren't working? Is it just a temporary glitch with the MediaWiki update? NovaHawk 03:17, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
    • @NovaHawk: Yes, there is no more budget for online RLUG support. Every online RLUG, unless otherwise determined to be theme-specific communities (BZPower, HothBricks, etc), receives the same sets in the base support package. The sets included in the base support package are sets that LEGO has "found interesting to the AFOL community". Such sets listed as examples are D2C/Exclusive sets like UCS, Creator Expert and D2C sets like Temple of Airjitzu, LEGO Ideas, LEGO Architecture, LEGO Minifigures (a.k.a Collectible Minifigures), and Special themes - like for example Ghostbusters. When an online community wishes to, in the words of Kim Thomsen, "for example ask to do a Super Heroes deep dive online activity with reviews, raffles, contests and other activities that include the readers, then if approved we will support the activity with the requested products." However, review copies of sets solely for reviews is no longer an option to request. In certain circumstances however, "if approached by internal departments, we will identify sites of interest to them and reach out offering prerelease review copies or participation in various campaigns." Worth noting, the activity support is described by Kim Thomsen as being able to "request sets, elements and whatever you can think of that we have for online activities, I cannot guarantee approval nor delivery though - but if approved we will do our best". Elements were previously not an option, so this is an interesting change in relation to the new activity support program. Sets sent out in the base support program will still be aimed to be sent out approximately a month before public retail availability, LEGO says. Hopefully this answers your questions as most of the text I copied comes from questions and answers already asked on LAN. :) As for user CSS, all CSS and JS pages are currently broken. It's a bug sourcing from an update to the SyntaxHighlight extension which we will be looking into tomorrow. --ToaMeiko (talk) 03:39, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
      • Great, thanks, that answers everything :) Sounds like a change for the better to me, and we also won't have to worry about budget proposals and all that nonsense now :P Good to hear the CSS is known about, for a minute I thought it might have just been me :D NovaHawk 03:53, 9 January 2016 (UTC)
        • @NovaHawk: If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask! It is a nice set of changes. My one concern is that I need to email Kim and figure out what we should do for prizes for the ongoing contest, and I'm not sure what to expect. I might CC Soupperson1 when I email it so we can figure out how to go about prizes. Other than that I'm happy about the changes to the support program. :) --ToaMeiko (talk) 04:00, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Ideas Wiki abusefilter[edit source]

Hey George, I was going to message you at the LEGO Ideas Wiki but I figured since you're more active here to leave a message here. Could you check that wiki's AbuseFilter to see if there's anything that makes it more vulnerable to spambots compared to the other wikis? Thanks Codyn329 (talk) 03:14, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

@Codyn329: AbuseFilters are global. --ToaMeiko (talk) 17:57, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear active user,[edit source]

NovaHawk's annoying weekly message- 2016, issue 2!

I know, I've been keeping you in suspense, but here it is! Issue 2!

A big thank you to everyone who participated and forums and proposals from the last issue. If you are one of these people, please feel free to be mean to people who didn't do anything (like Brikkyy13) until issue 3 comes out :P

This week's featured forum concerns expanding the scope of our categories- go check it out.

Also, I will be closing three other forums if there is no further discussion as voting/commenting is 1/vs everyone else or unanimous. Please note that one of these includes a big change to article ratings:

Keeping it simple this week- check the forum in the sitenotice. Or this one, they lead to the same place.

MeikoBot's being evil again[edit source]

  • Just in case you didn't see it on GitHub (I made a wrong comment in regards to CSS breaking) - MeikoBot's breaking any page that uses the CSS extension NovaHawk 07:00, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
    • @NovaHawk: Looks like it was thinking they were numbered lists. It's not familiar with the CSS extension so that's why. It'll be a long time before I run cosmetic changes again, but we should add the mainpage to a nobots list so that bots don't touch it. --ToaMeiko (talk) 04:18, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Global rename request[edit source]

Hey George, whenever you have time could you globally rename my account please to 'codynguyen1116' please? It's not of high priority but it'd be nice if you could do it whenever you have some time available. :) Thank you! (Sorry for all the trouble this renaming causes, If I was able to help improve the process I definitely would do it) Codyn329 (talk) 01:06, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

2016 forum[edit source]

  • Hey Meiko, just saw you were closing off sections on 2016 Changes, don't let my oppose on the hosting section stop you from closing the forum if that's all that's holding you up. It's like a very minor weak oppose but I'm totally ok with you all trying it if everyone who's taking care of the technical side of the site is ok with it... that may not make sense. I have a headache and words are hard :D NovaHawk 11:48, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
    • @NovaHawk: It's alright. Reason I haven't closed that off is we aren't exactly ready to move yet (aiming to move before our current hosting April billing day). I closed the other ones since they're done (closed Customs and put it in read-only mode so that we could export it and whatnot). --ToaMeiko (talk) 15:38, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Customs redirects[edit source]

What happened to all my customs? Unsigned comment by Captainjackster (talk • contribs).

@Captainjackster: Please see Brickipedia:2016 Changes. They're being merged into Brickipedia and will be available when we change servers. --ToaMeiko (talk) 19:12, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Brickset[edit source]

Hey Meiko, I don't know if you still work for Brickset/care about this/Brickset already know about this, but their "Read more..." links in their "news and activity" RSS feed are broken- they go to http://brickset.com/20077 instead of http://brickset.com/article/20077. Just thought someone should know :S NovaHawk 22:57, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

Important changes for 2016[edit source]

Brickipedia and the Brickimedia Network are undergoing big changes in 2016. Discussions are currently open and need your input at Project:2016 Changes:

  • New hosting – Brickipedia is considering changing servers. Please share your opinion on the matter.
  • Consolidate the sites – Brickimedia Customs and LEGO Stories Wiki have recently merged, but to further optimize the site and the community, it has been proposed to consolidate the sites to simply Brickipedia and the Great Ball Contraption Wiki.
  • Readership and Engagement – Proposal to frequently survey the community and visitors to gather data to continue optimizing the site.
  • Scrap the Admin Wiki – Proposal to give the community more transparency by deleting the private admin wiki for Brickimedia.
  • New subsites – Ideas to expand Brickipedia's project scope by adding new namespaces.

Please voice your opinion and read over the proposals and comments! --ToaMeiko (talk) 02:00, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Abusefilter[edit source]

  • Hey Meiko, some spambots are still getting though (not many, I think I've only deleted 5-10 globally since you put the filter in place). But it's because their links are https and the filter only works for http, would you mind taking a look at it if you get the time? I forget how to code that in :D Thanks, NovaHawk 12:18, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

chat ban[edit source]

can i be unbanned from chat please?

Customs[edit source]

  • Hey Meiko, I've fixed up all the sets and themes, but something's come up and can't do the rest for a while. Basically I've just got to do the minifigure templates (200-250, it's pretty quick to do) and move over user templates and pages and that should be it and you can delete the wiki. I should be all done in 24 hours, most likely less :) NovaHawk 12:50, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
    • Ok, Customs is all done (I think). Most stories don't have their full revision histories imported from Stories (list here), but I don't know if that matters. Anyway, Customs should be fine to delete soon- I've left a message on people's talk pages in case there's anything, and gave them a day to respond just in case. Not 100% sure about Stories- I think I got all the templates needed in the import from Customs to Stories, but never checked the policy pages, etc. I'll check on that when I can NovaHawk 08:29, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Customs Pages[edit source]

Please note that user talk or Customs talk pages will not be imported by default, if you wish to keep any of these, please either copy them over here, or let me know in the next day or so before the Customs Wiki is permanently removed so they can be imported. Thanks, NovaHawk 06:29, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Keetongu.png

8755 Keetongu was released as a set in 2005. He included a bright red Rhotuka spinner. A lock on his chest armour allowed one to open his chest cavity and fire a Rhotuka spinner as in the story. His whirling shields could be spun with an axle on his right arm, and their area increased as they spun and decreased when they again became still. The Keetongu set contained 201 pieces which could be combined with the pieces of Roodaka to create The Shadowed One set, with the pieces of Sidorak to create the Sentrakh set, or with the pieces of both Sidorak and Roodaka to create the Voporak set.

Not sure if you're going to see this before you check PayPal, but I just transferred the money to you. Thanks for everything :) BrikkyyTalk 09:24, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

@Brikkyy13: Sounds good, waiting on PayPal to convert it to USD and give me the balance and I'll have it shipped. Will get back with you when I have tracking info if available. --ToaMeiko (talk) 22:50, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Interviews with LEGO[edit source]

Could you send Kim an interview saying "I would like to schedule some email interviews with some LEGO designers."? I'll ask all the questions and do all the editing, unfortunately it seems only the ambassador can have direct contact with them.Soupperson1 Friends are Forever! <3Friends girls.jpg

Twitter[edit source]

Can you check @Brickipedia's DMs on Twitter? apparently someone never received their Disney minifigure in the Disney Minifigure Giveaway and it's been 2 months. SamanthaNguyen (talk) 02:30, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

That actually might be me XD I didn't say anything because I assumed you just gave it to someone else because I took a week to respond :P BrikkyyTalk 06:41, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Wait, no it's not. Just checked the chat log, I did not message @Brickipedia. I don't really care that I never got it, don't bother with mine. Send it to this other person so they get two to make up for it maybe? BrikkyyTalk 06:55, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
