Denethor is a character that appears in LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game.

Background[edit | edit source]

Denethor was Steward of Gondor and the father of Boromir and Faramir, but always favored Boromir, his eldest. After hearing of his favorite son's death, he went insane and told Faramir that he wished that his son's places had been reversed. Faramir left to defend Osgiliath but was hit by the Black Dart. Thinking that no hope remained, Denethor decided to have himself and his remaining son burned in a pyre. Gandalf and Pippin were able to save Faramir, but Denethor, now aflame from the ignited pyre, ran shrieking from the halls of his castle and hurled himself off a cliff and into the thick of the raging battle bellow.
