I'd like to see some sort of rule for the use of this magic word, as it's a little inconsistent. I've put down the three cases I can think of where it could be used, please add others if there are any. NovaHawk (talk) 02:39, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Page names with brackets[edit source]

There are several times where a name of a character is used more than once, so there are obviously separate pages, for example, Olivia- there's an Olivia (Scala) and Olivia (Friends). As you'll see, the displayed title of Olivia (Friends) is just "Olivia", through the use of displaytitle.

Use DISPLAYTITLE to hide bracketed bits
  1. The way I see it, "Olivia" is the title, and (Scala) and (Friends) are just things to make it work in the system. CJC95 (talk) 10:09, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  2. I actually prefer this idea, it wouldn't really change too much either. -NBP3.0 (talk) 12:02, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
Use DISPLAYTITLE to make bracketed bits smaller
  1. I'd prefer to leave the brackets in, simply because I like to see the name of the actual page when I look at the title. Also I know if I kept going to the Olivia (Friends) page and saw "Olivia" as the title, I'd start linking to "Olivia" instead of "Olivia (Friends)". I'd be ok with seeing it smaller since it's less important though (example of what it looks like) NovaHawk (talk) 02:39, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  2. Per Nova, especially because when I tend to go to link to a page, I copy and paste the title. --ToaMeiko (talk) 16:52, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  3. This one sounds good. Less emphasis should be put on it, but it is nice to keep there (though blatantly obvious looking at the page too :P) Ajraddatz (talk) 17:07, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Use of italics

Some boxes have parts of set names in italics, for example the box of 75053 says "The Ghost". DISPLAYTITLE can italicise things if needed.

  1. More accurate, so why not? BrickfilmNut (talk) 03:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Set names with special characters

This would have very limited use. It would be for sets like 3340 Star Wars 1, where the actual set name is "Star Wars #1", but the # can't be used in a page title for technical reasons.

Use DISPLAYTITLE for adding in special characters
  1. Sure. Can't see a downside. It's more accurate. BrickfilmNut (talk) 03:14, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Pages that have stupid numbers taken from other sites that aren't official but no one has bothered to move

MCdbUDOSiuHSBATMAN 23 THE JOKER for example.

  1. Why not just move it to a better title rather than simply displaying it with a better title? --ToaMeiko (talk) 16:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  2. Move pls Ajraddatz (talk) 17:08, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I do when I see them, but some were running on the old template before it was deleted, so since it is(or was) being used, and no one else is going to be moving a hundred Fabuland key chains anytime soon, I figured it may as well be noted. CJC95 (talk) 18:08, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
  3. Someone point me in the right direction. I can move whatever's needed, I suppose. -Cligra
  4. I'd rather we just move them too, we shouldn't have made-up item numbers in titles NovaHawk (talk) 09:58, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
