• It currently doesn't work in Refreshed (Brickimedia/brickimedia#134), but you can play around with it by going to http://en.brickimedia.org/wiki/User:ToaMeiko?useskin=vector (and click the heart near the search bar). Bot?

I'd love to create a bot to do two things:

MWC offline PM

BTW, have you tested that offline PM much? I'd love for it to work, but MWC only keeps the last 50 chat messages now, so 50 messages after you send the PM it will be deleted, and the person on the other end may not have seen it, sorry. UltrasonicNXT (talk)

Chat

Brickimedia chat isn't working. At the moment, LFY, Storm, and Agenet Spy are in chat. When I enter, it says that no one is there and that I am not there either. Anything I type does not appear in the chat window. I am using Firefox, which worked before, and chat is still not working. I have also tried internet explorer. Any ideas on what I can do to make it work again? Thanks,

To be honest, the goal of a Brickfilms Wiki was to see if the idea would be successful, and if it worked, I would propose that it be added here. :P Considering the difficulty of a fork, I'm not sure that I'd want to start it on Wikia. But if it's not going to be successful, I don't really want to start it here, either.   • Sorry, I meant to get you to remind me about this. Yeah, the top two errors were about no updated or author tags. And, if you re-check the error link, those errors are done from 32 to 17- I looked into the RSS extension we have the other day and apparently it assigns the author and update tag by the first occurence of a default signature followed by a timestamp, which is why I added it to {{NewsBy}}. I've just got to go around and add a NewsBy template to all the old news reports and then it should be fine (which will be in a little while). C2f

Why does C2f need to exist? Those articles are quite clearly class 4, but they get to be rated higher just because all the info on them isn't out yet? I don't get it. -Cligra

• Because it's complete (C2), but are based on a future subject, so not all the information exists yet, but absolutely every bit of info that exists at the time is on those pages, so they can't get any more complete. It saves people the trouble of trying to add information (if they are say, improving C4 pages) to those articles when there is no more information to be added. --ToaMeiko (talk) 18:23, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
  • While I do, from a technical standpoint, understand the definition, it seems like unnecessary complication. While the article (theoretically) contains all the information it can at the moment, it's only going to be outdated very quickly, and the rating will have to be changed again. In addition to this, listing is as a "C2" makes it seem like the article should be halfway decent, whereas most C2f articles are little more than stubs. -Cligra

I personally think we need a review team to keep the reviews sub site alive. Brickset have one, Eurobricks have one > http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=20631 , so why not us? If we all learn how to use a certain review layout it'd work. Like brickset and Eurobricks we could put our reviews in the new section, so people we see them, and hopefully write a review after! I have lots more ideas if this is green lit - Soup

I have this account name at least for now; I haven't ever been able to come up with decent names, and your software seems to dislike "Ɱ" for being confusing or spoofing something. Anyway, I meant to ask you about your image policy, and I wasn't surprised that it is quite free. The WMF does only use free and some fair use images to prevent the copyright holders from suing them; does Brickimedia not think of that as a problem? Anyway, I'd be happy to write about BrickCon, BrickFair, Brickfête, BrickFest, Brick Fiesta, Brickworld, and the like, and perhaps even a general article on Lego conventions.--Editor (talk) 23:32, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Our image policy is mostly so free because nothing we upload is really prone to a lawsuit. The LEGO Group is a company that supports its community that revolves around the product, so the only thing they'll have a problem with us uploading would be confidential/preliminary set images. Anything else that gets uploaded generally is free or fair use, and if someone wants us to take something off of our site it's easier for everyone for us to just say "sure" than to make a big dispute about rights to the image. The only time I've ever seen a problem with our images (aside from people uploading preliminary/confidential stuff from LEGO) would be if something is taken from Flickr and the author contacted us to credit him to that image. Thankfully the LEGO community doesn't have all the lawsuit-crazy people like many other parts of society have, so we've never needed a very rigid or limiting image policy.

And if you could make those articles for those events, that'd be great! If you need me to code an infobox for that, just ask (or I'm sure you could probably adapt the code to our existing infoboxes to make it yourself). Thanks for the help! --ToaMeiko (talk) 04:38, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

That makes sense in general, but it seems that there will be a lot of exceptions. Examples could be photographs of notable creations (e.g. ones that have inspired Cuusoo/Ideas sets), or photographs of events. I did receive plenty of backlash and perhaps insight when uploading a a CC-marked image of the BrickFair convention to Wikipedia. It seems that photographs of what can be deemed 'artwork' (in this case, lego creations) cannot be assigned a free license, even ones that I've taken (see Freedom of Panorama). I did end up posting a photograph of the event on Wikipedia, but only because it was one that Todd uses as promotional material, and thus fits their Non-free promotional template.

So it seems that most photographs of these conventions and of individual creations should not be free under US copyright law; meaning that your image policy should restrict those images, unless the convention organizer allows their use as promotional material (link to the BrickFair resource). And still then, it would be a good idea to require such fair use-marked images to be of sufficiently low resolution and have a detailed fair use rationale. Also, I wasn't thinking about infoboxes yet; I may be able to adapt code from Wikipedia's and/or one here; I'll let you know if I have any trouble.--Editor (talk) 12:42, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

I think that unless someone contacts us with an issue about an image, uploading it under whichever license is closest to what it is and listing the source and/or author should be enough. That could be problematic in many cases, especially if a company files a lawsuit against Brickimedia for violating copyright law, instead of asking administrators to remove the image. It'll also lead to photos like File:Bricksthumb.jpg being uploaded, which is on a prominent space on the encyclopedia but has no information as to where it's from; likely pulled from a website. Just trying to offer assistance; although I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself. I'm okay with writing content, but likely I won't feel comfortable adding the conventions' logos and photographs from the events to the articles.--Editor (talk) 22:36, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Just wanted to add, I'm not sure if this'll work for Wiki- or Bricki- pedias, but I've found some interesting sites with images that confirm that the (perhaps semi-AFOL) Al Pacino has visited BrickCon and BrickFair, the latter being while we were there. I'm requesting the photos to have free licenses for Wikipedia, but perhaps we should use them here now, whatever you think. Looks like he was picking up one of those BrickForge freebies too. Re:Categories

It may not be in guidelines, but it was discussed in one of the forums. The guidelines also to say use 2001 and not 2001 sets, but we've been using the latter for over a year and a half now (and that is meant to be changing to "sets introduced in 2001" soon, but I still need to get to that). Also if you change the name of the "2001 sets" categories, call it "sets released in 2001" instead of using "introduced". • We can't do it for the same reason that Brickset, The Brick Fan, and various other communities don't. Linking to, uploading, or sharing preliminary/confidential images condones copyright violation, and copyright violation is something we're strictly prohibited from partaking in with our negotiations with the LEGO Group. No, you don't have to remove everything based on the confidential images, however we can't upload or link to those images as evidence. Mascot

Since you voted negative and didn't get my previous message here are some reasons to vote yes: 1. Increased exposure of company/site for us Highly effective in creating awareness, building loyalty and importantly, selling the product Mascots create media exposure and excitement. At community events, the mascot is often photographed for print media or filmed for TV news

2. Appeal to the human psyche A mascot's personality can distinguish a brand. I.e. The Mack Trucks bulldog mascot evokes toughness and strength. I think an owl would represent us as they are hardworking, versitile, and full of information

3. Build brand recognition of a product Generate goodwill for the brand Act as an ambassador for the brand by providing a voice for the company's social conscience Can act as a rallying icon for community identification (for example, baseball fans doing the "Tomahawk Chop") Create a more memorable marketing hook for promotional campaigns

4. Serve as the vehicle to quickly remind readers/editors who you are and what you stand for They create the necessary positive image need for a message campaign to be a success

5. Attract new potential readers/editors to learn more about your site

6. Incentive to get families to visit (if it's cute!/marketable)

7. Create enthusiasm for any fundraising event and participation in a program

8. It would be fun to make as a community.

Article Feedback and User Rights

Just a question regarding the User Rights required to reply to feedback posts. I'm asking because I recently replied to one (mainly because I've seen the same question/similar question be asked several times and no one else was on at the time) and I'd just like to know whether I shouldn't have or not. Trouble logging in

Unfortunately at the moment there's nothing I can do about this. Since an email address was never associated with your account I'm not able to add one through the database. Weird images in comments sections

Just wondering why I'm seeing this next to everybody's names in comment sections of news reports/blogs/etc. BrikkyyTalk

That's a feature of the comments extension that has and should be disabled currently. I updated all of our extensions today so obviously the update re-enabled it. I'll fix it. --ToaMeiko (talk) 05:26, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

It "blocks" comments from a specific user, in other words you won't see that user's comments anywhere after you click it. --ToaMeiko (talk) 06:25, 20 December 2014 (UTC)

Password

Okay this is hard to explain.. It seems too be the acutal password causing the problem, being too long or something. I made 2 accounts the one with my old password (and my regular account) won't work the new one with a different password will. :P It also may just be might ipad so would it make sense if I emailed you my password then you changed the password and emailed it to me? I'm sorry I'm being so dependant on you :P But honestly you've been a great help! User:Soupperson/Sig

I don't think it's just your iPad because this is an issue other users are experiencing as well. The most important thing I can suggest to you is to make sure when you sign up to include an email address and to confirm that email address as soon as you register so you can get a password reset through the system. MediaWiki issues

I know there's been a lot of issues in the update, so here are some things that I've found that may need to be addressed:

• That password thing (happened to me too but I was able to sign in through customs)
• Thanking users for their edits gives an error message
• My avatar is gone, as is my userpage
• Recent changes now shows all the changes in a sub-list, it looks kind of messy. (not sure whether this one was intentional or not, as it looks like something that would be done for ease of access)

I'm pretty sure all but that last one are legitimate issues, so when you have a chance definitely look into them. BrikkyyTalk

A Couple of Things to Change

Just stopping by, and noticed a couple of things to change on the site (which I can't do anymore since I'm not an admin). One, on review pages using the DeepSea skin, the Social section in the sidebar is still showing up blue (see picture). Also, we need a 'This file is a screenshot of Brickipedia or another Brickimedia project' or something in the picture licensing options :P --Jag 18:38, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
