Background[edit | edit source]
Stephen Strange was a selfish surgeon only interested in furthering his career and growing wealthier until it was all lost when a car accident left his hands broken and, even after they healed, shaky. Strange traveled the world, willing to try anything to heal his hands, spending the fortune he had amassed to do so. His journeys eventually brought him to the Himalayas where he met an elderly hermit known only as the Ancient One, Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. The Ancient One was put off by Strange's selfish tendencies and refused to help him unless he showed a more empathetic and heroic side, which the sorcerer could sense. After one of the sorcerer's students, Baron Mordo, attempted to betray his master to Dormammu by secretly stealing his power. Strange discovered this, but was cursed by Mordo, inhibiting him from sharing the truth. To stop the Baron's plot, Strange gave-up his quest to restore his hands and instead dedicated himself to learning magic so he may save the Ancient One. This act proved to the Ancient One that Strange did have potential to be a good man and he took him on as a new pupil and began training him to become the new Sorcerer Supreme. Under the Ancient One's tutelage, Strange faced enemies such as Dormammu and Nightmare before he was allowed to return to New York City.
Back in his hometown, Strange, while continuing to battle otherworldly entities, became a consultant for other superheroes on the mystic arts. He later formed the Defenders with Namor the Sub-Mariner, The Hulk, and Silver Surfer, originally to stop an invasion of demons called the Undying Ones. Later, Strange tried to prevent a the Shuma-Gorath from escaping to Earth through the Ancient One's mind. Strange had no choice but to trap it in his mentor's head, killing the Ancient One and making Strange Earth's new Sorcerer Supreme. Strange was also a member of the Illuminati, a council also made up of Namor, Professor X, Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, Black Panther, and Black Bolt, a secret organization designed to share information between superhero teams in the case that their combined intelligence can unearth a critical plot or event before it happens and hopefully prevent it.
In LEGO Marvel Super Heroes[edit | edit source]
Strange does not appear in the main narrative, but in a side-mission Human Torch and Invisible Woman rescued him from Dormammu and then the three heroes defeated Dormammu together.
