Background[edit | edit source]
Spider-Man and his team (consisting of Nova , Iron Fist, Power Man, and White Tiger) were looking to impress Nick Fury after getting "grounded" following a dispute between Spider-Man and Nova. They looked through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s criminal database for a hard villain they could take down, and after various criminals, they decided to take down Dr. Doom (who happened to be S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most wanted and dangerous criminal). They traveled to Latveria, the country Doom ruled as a corrupt dictator. Doom then attacked the team for invading Latveria's borders, and after the team used teamwork they managed to subdue him fairly easy. Doom was then brought aboard the Helicarrier, where it was revealed that it was actually a DoomBot that Spider-Man and his team were tricked into taking. The Doombots then split up to better destroy the Helicarrier. All the Doombots were destroyed and Fury both impressed and angered by his team. The real Doom left a message stating that he had studied the team's strengths and weaknesses and would be ready for them if they ever returned to Latveria
Doom later appeared giving Beetle instructions, implying Beetle worked for Dr. Doom.
Captain America's shield later ended up in Doom's hands and Spider-Man and Captain America both fought to get the shield back before he could analyze it and make his armour or any weapon indestructible. However, Doom was on Latverian soil as he was in a Latverian Embassy and had full diplomatic immunity. Doom was stopped by Captain America while he was in his Doomjet. Though he claimed that he was on Latverian soil and, therefore, had immunity, Cap pointed out that Doom was in American airspace. Dr. Doom was then arrested and deported back to Latveria.
