"Attack of the Ice Clan" is the second episode in the third season of Legends of Chima: The Animated Series, and the 28th episode of the series as a whole.

Official description[edit | edit source]

Led by the Saber Tooth Tiger Sir Fangar, the Hunters advance and their crushing ice spreads across CHIMA. In a battle of the Crocodile Swamp, the animal Tribes fight back but learn that their weapons are powerless against this new enemy.

Summary[edit | edit source]

"All is well in the magical world of Chima. Laval and Cragger celebrate their victory over the Outlands tribes and all the animal tribes are friends. But Eris is troubled by strange dreams of fire and an ancient tribe of hunters have awoken. Saber Tooth Tigers, Mammoths, and Vultures wield unstoppable ice powers as they climb towards the surface. These are the Legends of Chima." - Opening monologue

Eris dreams of flying around Chima with her wings aflame once more. She spots Laval and Cragger on their tanks and rush over to them. Suddenly their tanks catch fire, as does the top of Mount Cavora. Eris wakes and rushes outside and is relived to find Mount Cavora as normal as ever. As she sighs in relief, she notices the nearby land turn to ice.

In the Croc Swamp, Crominus and Crunket inspect their troops while inside the castle, Crooler inquires to Cragger how he feels that he's no longer king. He surprises her be declaring that he prefers to be a prince. The Hunters enter the swamp and freeze the water over. Cragger and Crooler flee from the fort, and trap the Hunters inside, but on the way to the Command Ship, they find their parents frozen. Before they can anything, Mungus opens the fort and the Hunters fire at them. They manage to escape with Crug, who had been frozen earlier while trying to escape.

Meanwhile the Hunters have gathered all of the crocodile's chi and use it to awaken the remaining hunters. Stealthor inquires as to what they shall do with their frozen prisoners, but Sir Fangar assures him that he has a "special" purpose for them.

At the Lion Temple, Eris tries to explain what she saw, but Laval dismisses it as one of her dreams. However, Cragger and Crooler arrive to verify Eris' claim, presenting the frozen Crug as proof. Lagravis talks with the lion elders, who identify the substance as "ice." Realizing that a new threat has struck Chima, Laval rallies an army of lions, gorillas, wolves, rhinos, and eagles. With Cragger leading the way, they set out for the Crocodile Swamp, except for Longtooth, who is forced to remain at the Lion Temple to melt the ice trapping Crug.

Meanwhile, the Ice Hunters return to the Fangs, where a massive ice Fortress rises. Sir Fangar declares that the hunters shall always return. With their fortress rebuilt, the Hunters head back to the swamp, only to find the army of Chima approaching.

The good tribes find themselves at an immediate disadvantage, as most of their vehicles are impossible to control on the frozen ground of the swamp. Worriz ends up leading the attack, as the Wolf Tribe's vehicles are unaffected by the slippery conditions, but they soon find that pulsars are useless against the Hunters, who simply freeze the beams with their ice-based Chi powers. With allies and vehicles alike being frozen in their tracks by the Hunters, Laval calls a retreat, cleverly turning the ice to his advantage by laying a barrage of covering fire at the enemy tribes. Although the Hunters freeze the blasts before they make contact, the resulting wall of frozen pulse beams delays them long enough for the heroes to escape with their frozen comrades.

Back at the Lion City, an irritated Longtooth sweeps up the remaining shards of ice while a defrosted Crug sleeps in the throne. Just as he declares that he is never defrosting another person again, the army returns; at the sight of dozens of frozen soldiers, Longtooth runs screaming from the city.

Characters (In order of appearance)[edit | edit source]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • When Sir Fangar enters the Croc fortress, Sykor can be seen walking behind him despite always walking on all fours.
  • The establishing shot of the Lion Temple at the end of the episode depicts it to be day, yet when Longtooth runs out seconds later, it is night.
  • It is a complete mystery as to why the Lions, Eagles, Gorillas, Rhinoceroses, and Wolves did not become frozen immediately upon encountering the hunters. In the previous episode, everyone got frozen regardless. In this episode, everyone except Cragger and Crooler became frozen. One could argue that the tribes that fought the Hunters were mammals or birds, which are warm blooded. Yet, Cragger fought with them, and reptiles are cold blooded. One could also argue that the Hunters have control over their ice powers. However, as villains, wouldn't the Hunters want to set their powers on max, and just eliminate the competition?
