Batman is a theme introduced in 2006 and discontinued in 2008. It has been re-released in 2012 as part of the Super Heroes theme.

Description[edit | edit source]

The first wave of the Batman theme is heavily based on scenarios that did or could've happened on the show. Each set pairing Batman with a villain. The only set that doesn't comply with this in the 2006 wave is the The Batcave: The Penguin and Mr. Freeze's Invasion. The first wave also had released 3 magnet sets which had the minifigures from the first wave, the torsos and legs had a magnet in the middle of them. The only exception being Mr. Freeze who's ice tanks held the magnet. The only thing you could do with the minifigures is take the head and hands off. Presumably you could also take the cape off of Batman and Robin. The next small wave came out in 2007 only having two sets, both introducing a brand new dark blue and light grey Batsuit with a new Bat-logo on the front of the suit along with a new belt. This is also the very first instance that sold a dark blue cowl for the Batman theme. This wave also introduces new villains that are Scarecrow, Bane, and The Riddler the 2007 wave ended with only 2 magnet sets. The next full wave comes out in 2008 to feature sets based off of Christopher Nolan's hit movie "The Dark Knight" which only one set features a vehicle and villain from the movie. That set being The Tumbler: Joker's Ice Cream Surprise the 2008 line also only had Batman's "The Dark Knight" suit. The 2008 line also featured a new villain, Harley Quinn. The 2008 theme sparked a videogame which unfortunately after the video game the theme was discontinued in 2009 with no products until 2012 with the release of Super Heroes which featured Batman as a major hero of the DC Comics line. Which led to the very last LEGO Batman product, "LEGO Batman: Ultimate Sticker Collection" that featured the minifigure designs from 2006 - 2008. Thus leaving the Superheroes theme to release more Batman sets and merchandise such as LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
