Today I'm reviewing another summer 2015 set: 41108 Heartlake Food Market. This set is the $40 set in the summer wave of Friends. I disliked this set from the minute I saw photos of it. Will my first impressions materialize?, find out in the review:

The box[edit | edit source]

41108-1Soup.jpg41108-2Soup.jpg

The box is mainly medium lavender with medium lilac edges, like the other Friends sets. The front of the box shows Mia paying Maya. Mia is the large picture on the back. There's a picture of the interior and pictures of the various features of the set, most of which cam be found on our set page.

The contents[edit | edit source]

41108-3Soup.jpg

We get three numbered bags, a 16x16 light royal blue baseplate and a 16x8 baseplate. There's also a sticker sheet and two medium sized instruction manuals.

Bag 1[edit | edit source]

The parts

41108-4Soup.jpg

Mia's skooter makes its first appearance outside her lemonade stand, which you were crazy if you didn't pick up. Maya's hair and skirt also appeared in one other set. The green awning piece only appears here and one other set.

Mia, Maya and Felix

Mia's torso isn't rare but everything else is extremely common. As for the combination itself I don't particularly like it, I don't think the colour said collide well. She comes with a grocery basket as an accessory.

Maya's parts all come in one other retail set, besides her face which comes in three. I don't love this outfit choice, it looks too old on Maya who'd supposed to be 16-18. Her parts are super useful if you like making custom mini doll figures though. I'm sad they didn't give Maya a new torso print to represent the market she's working at. I wish Kate was included here and Maya could be in the lighthouse set, or Mia and Stephanie could switch. It's boring when the same characters are in the same set.

Sidebuilds

41108-7Soup.jpg

I like the construction of the banana stand, it's simple but effective.

I don't understand the point of the 1x2 white tile at the back of the skooter, what's it supposed to represent! It's nice there's a box for Mia to deliver or bring home fresh goodies.

The lamppost has a nice ivy construction on its side. It's nice that we have a white lamppost but it's a shame we didn't get the official lapost. I don't like the colour scheme of this bench, it's too much. I'd per fair just pink and medium lavender rather then this four colour mess.

I love this stand with a sticker! It looks very classy and would work with any layout with grocery store.

Market part 1

41108-8Soup.jpg41108-9Soup.jpg

It's a shame we so many brick yellow colored buildings in Heartlake City. The bottom is medium lavender which merges nicely. I love the grocery sign, it'll also work in any layout. The door has a nice sticker on it too. I love the bright purple and green awing over the door. I like the arch over the other window, it's a shame the arch doesn't go the full way though. The colours of the baseplates don't match but it doesn't look that bad. It's a nice piece of grass in front of the bathroom. I like how the window for the bathroom is so small so you can't peek in! This is a huge improvement from 41037 Stephanie's Beach House. There's no interior beside the bathroom yet. The bathroom is nice and compacted. Its a nice toilet build and it's nice toilet paper is becoming more common in sets. I don't think the colors in the sink match well either.

Bag 2[edit | edit source]

41108-11Soup.jpg

The parts

41108-10Soup.jpg

The medium lavender curved arch is somewhat rare, appearing in three other sets. The pineapple "minifigure" heads only appear here and one other set. The printed jam 2x2 white tile also only appears here and one other set.

Completed market

41108-11Soup.jpg41108-12Soup.jpg

Outside there's flowers on display, I love the bouquet technique! There's also carrots and a loaf of bread in boxes. The market gets a staircase! I like the fences pieces they used. The interior has a really nice weighing scales, it's probably my favourite part of the set. There's pineapples on display. Beside it is a multi colored box with apples in it. I like the build of the jam stand, the magenta works really well with the bright reddish violet! It's a shame the orange juice and milk cartons aren't in a fridge! I was really disappointed when I found out the Juniors cereal and Simpsons chocolate milk weren't included with the cartons, as they would've fit perfectly. The till has a pretty generic build and a $100 bill on the counter. There's a box with cherries in it beside the till.

Bag 3[edit | edit source]

41108-14Soup.jpg

The parts

41108-13Soup.jpg

The shutters make there first appearance in bright purple (pink) here! They look fantastic! I can't wait to use these moulds elsewhere! The 2x4 medium lavender roof piece is exclusive too. The 1x3 medium lavender tile and 2x2 reddish brown circular tile with stud are both rare.

Upstairs

41108-14Soup.jpg41108-15Soup.jpg41108-16Soup.jpg

I'm not sure the reasoning for giving the grocery an upstairs but oh well. It's mainly brick yellow with medium lavender trim at the bottom, and medium nougat at the top. Like I said before my favourite part is the shutters! I also like the flowers underneath. If you live in a house with the number 74 you should consider getting this set or at least the sticker sheet! The inside has a few compacted areas. There's a small kitchen with cookies in the oven! There's also a fridge and sink. The right side has a table with a cake in a bowl. A stool is in front of the table as well. I love the laptop sticker! The couch has a nice and simple build too. The small grey ladder leads up to the bed. The bed has a nice and corny duvet cover.

I can't say I hate this set, but I'm disappointed. Why couldn't we have gotten a large supermarket? With a trolley, conveyer belt and several different sections. This is more of a green grocers then it is a market. I think the bathroom and apartment were pointless inclusions and instead the bricks could've been used to build a much nicer looking supermarket. It's a huge shame none of the new food elements introduced this year were used. It would've been nice if this set had a new mould, recolouring or at least had a new print. That being said it will be fun for children but if your like me and collect the majority of Friends sets you'll have all these food items.

Maya's hair appears in 3 sets, her top appears in 4 (maybe 3) sets, her skirt appears in 2 sets but her head is exclusive to this set and the dolphin cruiser.

Brickset is sometimes wrong, only Sarah uses Stephanie's hairpiece in dark brown.

In extremely rare cases. But never with their inventories- they're imported straight from LEGO. So they're sometimes incomplete, but never wrong.

My Heartlake Vet dark brown hair for Sophie was probably mixed up with Maya's.
