Today I'm reviewing a new-ish set: 41055 Cinderella's Castle Romance. This set is a 60$ set and the most expensive of the dreaded Disney Princess theme. I didn't like the previous Disney Princess sets I reviewed, will this be a change? While reading keep in mind I'm a Disney Princess fan girl, so if the set isn't accurate I won't be a huge fan. Now onto my review:
- Theme: Disney Princess
- Pieces: 646
- Mini-doll figures: 2
- Price: $69.99 USD

The Build[edit | edit source]
Mini-doll figures[edit | edit source]
Cinderella is the princess of this set. In summer of 2011 things finally looked like Cinderella was becoming accurate based on her movie and then the dreaded fall 2011 Disney Princess redesign came. LEGO based their Cindy of this, which looks as much like Cinderella as Cruncher's Driver. Cinderella has an exclusive dress (for some weird reason, she appeared in two sets) that's blue :(. I do like the technique used to make her evening/opera gloves. Her face makes her look nine,I don't know what else they could've done but Jasmine looks pretty age appropriate. Cinderella's hair is exclusive to her, but it doesn't fit her properly, it's to big! In all this figure needs a major upgrade (With her strawberry hair and sliver dress!).
Here's a figure that's not based off the 2011 redesign but is still inaccurate! Prince Charming has brown hair, similar to Han Solo not dark brown short shaggy hair. His eyes are supposed to be brown not amber! His torso would be accurate in Cool yellow not baby blue! At least his legs are accurate :P His legs would be fairly useful for a mini-doll who wears a track suit.
I think Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, Drizella or the Fairy Godmother could've been included, the price is 70$ there should be at least three characters!
The animals[edit | edit source]
Bruno is also unaccurate he's a fully grown reddish brown hound dog not a nougat Labrador puppy.
Our villain of the set is Lucifer, yay? Lucifer is unfortunately portrayed as one of Cinderella's pets :/ He is also inaccurate as he should look more evil and fatter!
Where are Cinderella's mice and bird friends?!
Sidebuilds[edit | edit source]
Yay another awkward looking tree! What's with girl themes insisting with having trees toned with two colours brown and tan? In the tree there is red apples (that are somewhat rare). Beside the tree is a white round table top on a dark grey table bottom. On the table there is two pink mugs, I guess they're not allowed eat. The table has two cleverly built chairs to go with it.
A swing is also included, a swing? Why? Cinderella is 19th not 6! Gosh darn it LEGO do your research. The swing uses the same technique as seen in Olivia's House. The swing is connected to two weirdly colored trees! Yay?
The Castle's exterior[edit | edit source]
I'll talk about the castle's exterior first, and then I'll move onto the interior. Here's a spoiler the exterior is a lot better then the interior. The castle has a moat leading up to it, which is decorated with lily pads and different flowers. Why?? There's a curved small bridge over the moat which is white on the bottom and blue on the top. There's a pink carpet on the bridge which is actually movie accurate. Though the carpet was on stairs leading up to the castle, it was still pink :P At the front of the carpet there's a clear small panel which should have a sticker (mine tore :() of the glass slipper which is blue now :S
The bottom is grey and uses the square angled panel pieces, connected by a grey brick brick, which are very uncommon in girl themes. The panel pieces are all plastered in a sticker to make it look like pink flowers are growing on the castle walls. On the left and centre sides there's blue castle roof pieces, which gives it more of a royal look. The castle's door is wide open and impossible to close as it's constructed with arch pieces, not a door frame. It's a good thing there's no robbers in this world, thank goodness this castle isn't in City. For some reason there's a bench and a kennel for Coco included to the right and left of the castle's door. Above the door there a clock, which is pointing at about two minutes to midnight, even though Cinderella ran away at midnight. :S
The higher part of the castle is white. Coming out of Cinderella's room there's a golden balcony. Above her room there's square angled panel pieces in white, which also are covered in stickers representing ivy. There's also another golden balcony beside the lower angled panel pieces, though I don't know how you get to it :/ The castle' roof is baby blue (and exclusive :33)! The castle is decorated with pink flags and transparent pink hearts because why not?
The Castle's interior[edit | edit source]
I'll go from right to left, as that's the way you build it. The bathroom is our first room. The bath is in the centre, it's built out of curved white bricks. The water in the bath is just a flat azure brick. The tap of the bath is the double tap piece in pearl gold, which is becoming less and less rare. To the front there's a table (which has the azure petal piece as it's base) with several different perfumes on it, including a stud as one. :/ That's the smallest perfume I've ever seen!
The middle room is basically a hallway. The carpet finishes here and there's a pearl gold turn table to make Cinderella dance. Also included is a potted plant (why? :/). There is also a book shelf but it's really disjointed with other LEGO canon as the books are 1x2 plates and a 1x2 flat on top(facepalm :/). If you turn the book shelf you can reveal a hidden key. In between the left and middle room there's a lavender table that holds two glasses of red wine, WHAT?! WHY?!
The left and last room includes a weird looking lavender couch, that only fits one figure. :/ Behind the couch there's a weirdly constructed fireplace that has a pink flag waving over it, because why not :P
Unfortunately there's only room above the first floor-Cinderella's bedroom, apparently she's moved in all ready :P The bedroom sits on a 8x16 light pink baseplate. To the left there's an azure bed, which oddly can have a letter pulled out from it. I guess Cinderella's quite noisy if she's reading the Prince's letters allready. Behind the bed there's purple curtains, and I love this technique! I wish TLG would use it more often. To the right side there's another one of those azure petal pieces, this time used as a seat. It's in front of a vanity, that has a working mirror.
Above her bedroom there's a brown rounded door, which upon opening you will find a brown chest. Inside the chest there's a few jems. Its a big waste of space in my opinion.
Above the treasure room(?) is Lucifer's room, he has a pink and gold constructed seat, and a bowl of milk beside his bed.
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
Build/Design | 3 / 5 |
Playability | 3½ / 5 |
Parts | 4½ / 5 |
Price | 4 / 5 |
Overall | 3½ / 5 |
Even though I do not like this set I guess it is a better then okay set. The design is not accurate, but I guess it's recognizable. I think more characters are needed to enhance playability. The parts are pretty cool, with all those new light blue pieces-which probally won't appear elsewhere soon! The price isn't horrible for $70. Overall if you can get past the sets inaccuracy, I think you will enjoy this set. Though I don't :P But that's my opinion, share yours in the comments!
Anyways, thanks for reading my review! I hope you liked it <3 Soup
