Green Lantern, also known as John Stewart is a minifigure released in 2017. He first appeared as a playable character in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

Background[edit | edit source]

John Stewart is a former marine sniper turned architect living in Detroit. After Guy Gardner becomes injured, John Stewart replaces him as Space Sector 2814's backup Green Lantern. Stewart substitutes for Hal Jordan infrequently and briefly before Jordan leaves the Corps and Stewart is promoted to full time membership. During his time in the Corps, John meets and falls in love with Katma Tui and they eventually marry. However, the villainess Star Sapphire later kills Katma and John is framed for both the murder of Carol Ferris and thievery in the nation of South Nambia. John is imprisoned by the Nambians, though Hal later helps him to escape.

John then leaves Earth for outer space where he joins Superman, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Starfire, and Jason Blood to stop an avatar of the Anti-Life Equation from destroying the universe. John fails to protect the planet of Xanshi and it is destroyed, which enrages the Martian and leads the last surviving member of the planet, Yrra Cynril, into becoming the villainess Fatality.

Later, John is captured by an insane Guardian of the Universe who tasks him with creating a society from a "mosaic" of alien communities. John is eventually successful, and as his reward is promoted from Green Lantern to Guardian of the Universe. Katma Tui is also resurrected, but she is soon killed by Hal Jordan when he becomes possessed by the Parallax entity and destroys the Green Lantern Corps. John survives, but he is divested of his power.

A group of rivals of the Guardians seek the opportunity to take power and create their own intergalactic force of peacekeepers called the Darkstars. John is recruited as the leader of the Darkstars but is forced to retire when he loses usage of his legs on a mission. Hal, still under Parallax' influence, later restores John's ability to walk. The new Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner, chooses John as his backup. When the Corps is rebuilt, Stewart again returns to full time duty. He also joins the Justice League officially, having only filled in when Hal or Kyle were unavailable before, and helps Wonder Woman to design a new headquarters for the team.

Fatality is later transformed into a Star Sapphire and searches out John. She withdraws her accusation of Xanshi's destruction being his fault and declares that she loves him.

During the Blackest Night, John is visiting Xanshi to mourn the loss of the planet when the entire population are resurrected as zombies by Black Lantern power rings, who are also joined by the Black Lantern Katma Tui. They torment John for his failure to save them, but he manages to overcome them because of the memory of Fatality's forgiveness and is able to escape.

After The Flash resets the timeline, John Stewart is responsible for training new recruits into the Green Lanten Corps. He also tries to begin a relationship with Fatality.
