Background[edit | edit source]
Michael Jon Carter is a football player from 25th century Gotham City whose career is ruined when his father gets him involved in a gambling scheme. After being dismissed from the league, Michael becomes a night watchman at the Space Museum where he becomes enamored with exhibits based on superheroes from nearly 400 years ago. Michael hatches a plan to steal equipment and travel back in time to become a beloved hero himself and regain his lost glory. With help from his robot sidekick Skeets, Michael does travel through time and becomes Booster Gold. Though Skeets helps him to become a successful hero, he is not appreciated in the wider superhero community because of his egotistical personality and get-rich-quick schemes, though he does land a spot on the Justice League International. Only after the death his best friend Ted Kord (Jaime Reyes' predecessor as Blue Beetle) does Booster begin to understand the hero's journey and make an attempt to change himself for the better.
When The Flash reboots the timeline, Booster Gold is from 25th century Canada. After going back in time, he is appointed the leader of the UN sanctioned Justice League International because they believe that he will be easy to control. Booster proves to be an ineffective leader as the team suffers loss after loss. After being visited by a version of his self from a possible future, Booster is warned that if Superman and Wonder Woman's relationship continues, he will not continue to exist. Soon after learning this, both versions of Booster disappear, and the one who led the JLI finds himself in 19th century Gotham.
